About Us >

The Huron Valley Sportfishing Club in a non-profit chapter of the Michigan Steelhead and Salmon Fisherman’s Association, based in the Monroe and Downriver Detroit Area.  We’ve recently modified our chapter name from the Huron Valley Steelheaders to the Huron Valley Sportfishing Club to reflect our focus on events and fishing opportunities much more varied than strictly Steelhead and Salmon.  Although we all love the strength and fight of some of the larger Great Lakes species, we are also blessed to be located on some of the most productive walleye waters in the world, and we spend plenty of time chasing the walleye and perch in the Western basin, large walleye and tons of crazy steelhead in the Central basin in both Ohio and Ontario waters of Lake Erie.  Our later summer schedule takes us to Lake Michigan for the summer king fishing, and we come back to Lake Erie in the fall for perch and trophy walleye off the Ohio shoreline in the fall.

The HVSC is a smaller club with about 130 members, and a core group that really enjoys the sport of fishing.   We focus on friendly competition in our club events and a cooperative attitude to help our fellow members and friends find and catch fish so that the entire group can have a good day on the water in all of our events.  We are also always close by, within radio contact of our group in case anyone has a problem and needs some help.  It’s happened more than once and it’s always comforting to know that you have a friend in the area if you need a hand.   It’s also nice to have friends around to share some of the triumphs and stories and offer advice if your day was not as good as you might have hoped.   Our mission is also to improve the sport, recruit new fisherman and assist with the knowledge that many experienced fisherman have to offer.  We enjoy and promote the family events, welcome children and grandchildren in all of our outings and do our best to assist the local communities with our special activities with handicapped children, seniors and schoolchildren with our Salmon in Schools program.

Our club is involved with several of the major fishing and outdoor shows in the winter months such as the Ultimate Fishing Show and Outdoorama in Novi, and our own club’s show, the Mich-Ohio Sportfishing Expo in Monroe, February 11th and 12th at the MBT Expo Center at the Monroe County Fairgrounds.

We have monthly meetings held in Taylor on the third Thursday of every month and we bring professional fishermen and state officials, tackle manufacturers and special guests to make presentations to each meeting to help spread the information about the latest programs, newest techniques and latest equipment for all of our members and guests.  The meetings are always open to guests and prospective new members to give all interested parties a chance to meet the group and get aquainted.  We also promote our crew’s list program at these meetings where we try to match up fisherman with boat captains in need of a crew for our events.  It’s a great way to meet new friends and talk to people with common interests in the outdoors.  NEW FRIENDS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME !!!
