Tournaments

With the Huron Valley Steelheaders, our Tournaments are all about FUN. As fisherman & ladies, this means “EVERYONE” catching fish and how we make this happen is communication. We are probably the talkingest bunch of fishermen on the lake.

A noted captain in our club was quoted as saying “Ten years ago, people would come in to the weigh in with only a couple people having a limit. Now it seems most if not all are coming in with limits, due he felt to the willingness among the club members in the tournament to share location, set-up, bait, speed and such, all in an effort to make sure “EVERYONE” caught fish.

Our Club Tournaments do not have BIG cash prizes with everyone pitching in $10 per crew member for the weekend ($5 for food, $5 for tournament) and $5 per boat per day for big fish (sometimes you may win enough to cover some of your boat gas for the weekend). Our tournaments are more along the lines of “Bragging Rights” with our friends and club members (see “Rules” button below for “Captain of the Year Awards”).

We have many members who have their own boats, but many times not enough people to go with and help split the expenses room, gas, food and beverage on a 2-3 or 4 day weekend outing so we have a “Crews List” (click to view). Splitting these expenses helps make multiple trips affordable, something we believe everyone considers as gas prices keep climbing.

If you are interested, please add your name to the crews list (Contact Mike Manick via email atmcmanickATatt.netor at 313-363-0823. If you are unsure of who is needing an extra crew-member when there is a tournament you would like to go on, make sure to contact the Port Captain (see schedule below). The Port Captain will make every effort to see you get a ride for that trip!

Don’t hesitate that when you sign up for the crews list to put down what trips/outings you are looking to go on as that helps the captain and the port chairman to fill a vacancy quickly!

Our tournaments do have Rules (click to view) which over the years we have refined in an effort to make it fair for all involved. We also review these rules every October during the Captains meeting where we vote on the schedule, and any suggested rule changes. Any member is welcome to participate in the Captains meeting! If the Port/Lake name is Highlighted (blue lettering), then just click on “Results” to view the tournament results!
